Abdullah Alrushaid Chair for Earth Science Remote Sensing Research
Chair Director: Dr. Fahad bin Khudier Alshehri
1. AIM of the Chair
Regional and international leadership of King Saud University in the field of geoscience research and remote sensing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Globally
2. The Chair’s Message:
Promoting innovation, creativity and development in research and studies related to geology, remote sensing applications and related fields, in addition to supporting distinguished participation in national and global research production, and stimulating the publishing movement of research related to this field in specialized journals with an international reputation
3. Objectives of the Research Chair
• Conducting geological studies and modeling related to identifying promising areas with ground and surface water using remote sensing techniques, geophysical applications, spatial information systems, statistical modeling, and smart machine learning, and arranging them according to development priorities.
• Conducting studies related to identifying promising areas with mineral and oil wealth reservoirs using advanced research techniques and arranging them according to development priorities.
• Conducting studies related to environmental geology and environmental risks related to water pollution, desertification, floods, rock collapses, ground cracks and subsidence’s, and weather changes using modern technology for remote sensing data, spatial information systems, geophysical applications, and machine learning, along with field trips to take water and soil samples for chemical analysis and conduct studies on them
• Conduct studies related to determining pre-exploitation values of natural resources using available geological, geophysical and remote sensing data combined with field trips
• Conducting comparative studies for all of the above and making comparisons with regional and global regions
• Writing and translating books in all fields of earth sciences and remote sensing to enrich the Arab library and spread knowledge in the earth sciences disciplines
• Providing support to decision-makers in the field of geological studies using remote sensing techniques and spatial information systems and providing specialized scientific consultations in the field of the chair.
• Developing community partnership with the university, and achieving optimal investment in distinguished human capabilities at the national and global levels to research, study and explore issues and problems related to natural resources.
• Training areas, undergraduate and graduate programs at the College of Science and entities related to the field of geological studies, and motivating researchers to innovate, create and develop in this field.
• Introducing the natural resources of water, oil and minerals to the competent authorities in cooperation with the relevant bodies such as the emirates of the regions, the Geological Survey, the Ministry of Water, Environment, Agriculture and all relevant bodies.
• Preparing a distinguished generation of national researchers and graduate students in the field of studies related to geological studies and remote sensing applications by holding courses, seminars and workshops with distinguished researchers locally and internationally and in partnership and cooperation with relevant local and international bodies.
