Quantum technologies, enabled directly by the quantum properties of the low dimensional systems employed, are expected to dominate novel technological applications in the foreseeable future. Quantum cryptography is probably the more advanced of these technologies. A lot of research effort worldwide, from both academic and industrial establishments, is focusing on quantum computing, quantum communications, quantum optics and Nano size systems. The research effort is multifaceted and interdisciplinary ranging from addressing fundamental issues all the way to looking for novel materials appropriate for enabling these technologies. Physics graduates wishing to enter this field of research should acquire the necessary background at the post-graduate level.
Vision
To educate a generation of competent researchers that could actively participate in the development and utilization of novel technologies for the benefit of the country and its population.
Mission
To provide a solid knowledge background to KSU Physics graduates so that they can follow and participate in the development of novel quantum technologies that are expected to drastically alter the technology landscape in the near future.
Objectives
- To promote the standards of studies at the MSc level (both at KSU and at the Kingdom, in general) by introducing a track that is relate to the cutting-edge of research internationally. To properly prepare the graduates for similar advanced studies and research at the PhD level.
- To provide rigorous training of KSU Physics graduates in all aspects related to the emerging quantum technologies.
- To contribute to the Kingdom's need for specialists in the field of emerging quantum technologies that are expect to shape the technological future worldwide.
