Message from the Department Head
We are pleased to welcome you to one of the distinguished departments in the College of Sciences at King Saud University, the Department of Statistics and Operations Research. Established in 1399H with a focus on the (Statistics) major, the department has since witnessed rapid development and increasing interest, leading to the addition of a new major, (Operations Research), in 1406H. This addition has become a pivotal aspect in supporting decision-making and enhancing efficiency in addressing complex challenges
To introduce these two disciplines, Statistics is concerned with collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data through scientific methods to derive conclusions that aid decision-making across various fields.This science plays a critical role in many applied domains, where it is used to analyze changes, trends, and predict the future, thus enhancing the efficiency and quality of decisions at all levels. As for Operations Research, it is an applied science focused on developing mathematical models and analytical methods to optimize the performance of complex systems. This field is employed to solve problems related to resources, planning, and decision-making in industrial, service, and governmental sectors, aiming to increase efficiency and achieve goals in the most effective manner.
Within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030, the demand for specialized national professionals with skills in data analysis and strategic decision making is increasing to support the kingdom's economic and knowledge transformation. The Department of Statistics and Operations Research has contributed to national development by producing graduates equipped with data analysis methods and innovative strategies based on solid scientific foundations to improve the performance of vital sectors such as health, education, economy, and industry. Since their establishment, both majors have witnessed growing interest, with more than 990 graduates holding bachelor's degrees and 127 graduates holding master's and doctoral degrees. More...

Goal 2:Enhance the quality and social impact of scientific research by supporting publications in high-impact international journals, directing research to serve key national sectors such as health, economy, education, and energy, and promoting collaborative research projects both locally and internationally.
Goal 3:Strengthen professional and strategic partnerships by establishing effective collaborations with relevant national entities such as the General Authority for Statistics, the Saudi Data & AI Authority, the Ministry of Health, Aramco, and the Saudi Central Bank, in addition to forming international research and educational partnerships.
