RESEARCH PROJECT

Metal Halide Perovskites: from Theory to Devices

The project deals with the theoretical and computational investigation of new molecular systems and materials to be exploited in optoelectronic applications. The core of the project is an ab initio driven materials discovery and in-depth investigation at the electronic structure level, with the aim to predict and direct the synthesis and characterization towards novel materials with improved functionalities.

RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT ACTIVITY

He is an expert in the development and application of first principles computational methods to the simulation of the structural, electronic and optical properties of inorganic and hybrid materials and molecules and of the functional interfaces related to optoelectronic devices.  His research interests are broad, spanning from the simulation of chemical reactivity in catalysis and biological systems, to the study of excited states in semiconductor nanostructures and optoelectronic devices. Most recent research is in the field of solar energy materials, with emphasis on water splitting, dye-sensitized and perovskite solar cells. He has a strong expertise in the coordination and management of research projects, both at the National and European level, from which he received >2 million euro funding in the last 10 years.
