College Landmarks

 The College Milestones: 

The Plant Museum:
The Plant Collection contains samples and different kinds of plants of special economic importance. It also contains the roots of some plants and samples of kinds of infected plants together with educational samples.  The museum also houses samples of sea moss found in the Red Sea and the Arabian Gulf. in addition to a unique collection of plants taken from different provinces of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Herbarium
It was established in 1385 and recorded in the international herbaria in 1409. The Botanical garden was established in 1413 in the University area. It contains more than 85 of wild plants, Agricultural basins, Greenhouses,aquarium and seeds warehouse. The Herbarium contains more than 4000 kinds of dehydrated plants from KSA defined by their scientific names, types, places and the date of collection. Now this number reached 5000 of flowering plants. The Herbarium and the Floora Book which was written by the University teaching staff are considered as a very important reference for the Kingdom Plants.

Museum of Zoology:
This museum contains different kinds of animals and birds from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in addition to all kinds that  may be obtained from other countries. The museum also houses many models of non-vertebrates, sea fish, a collection of amphibians, and a large collection of reptiles, in addition to a collection of various insects as well as a collection of local and migrating birds (more...in Arabic)

Museum of Geology:
This museum contains collections of the Kingdom's minerals, rocks and excavations, in addition to samples of meteors that fell in the Empty Quarter and types of other meteors from abroad.  The museum also has plenty of minerals and rocks purchased or presented as gifts from abroad. There are also many maps which locate the positions of different minerals throughout the Kingdom together with the geologic maps of the different regions of the Kingdom.

Self Learning Classes
The College contains 8 Self learning classes, in each of them 20 PCs, Server, special and elevated floor, smart board, Projector and network printer. These Classes are equipped with very advanced systems for the self learning called "One Class" and "Model" which were designed for the Self learning purposes.

The Smart Classes:
The College contains 80 Smart Classes, each with very advanced teaching equipment like: the Smart Podium that include a PC and touch screen, this class also contains a Projector and smart board.

The Video Conference Classes
The College has 21 Video Conference Classes for teaching the Graduates studies for the Female Students in Malaz. These Classes could also be used for the workshop purposes and some lectures and seminars.

The Astronomical Dome
The College has an astronomical telescope equipped with the latest special technology for astronomy to observe the sun and the moon, and to check solar and lunar eclipses.  The telescope is available for those interested in watching celestial bodies. The Projects Administration in the University is making the a new drawing for another astronomical telescope in Aseer Area.

Research, Publication and Translation:
The college of Sciences is committed to giving faculty's research due attention: it makes laboratories at their disposal and facilitates resources, equipment and periodicals necessary for research.  Currently, there are in the College applied research projects which relate to the environment of the region.  Faculty have significant interest in publishing books in both Arabic and English, as well as translating scientific books into Arabic; there have been published books on chemistry, botany, zoology, geology, physics, and mathematics.  The College issues a Scientific Journal (The College of Sciences Journal) in English, which publishes the original papers of the College faculty and of the faculty of other universities. The College exchanges this journal with most of the world's universities, research centers and scientific associations.  Many papers have already been published in international journals.

Scientific Associations:
  The College of Sciences has contributed to the establishment of the following scientific societies: the Saudi Biological Society, the Saudi Chemical Society, the Saudi Society for Earth Geo-sciences, the Saudi Society for Sport Sciences, and the Society for Physical and Astronomical Sciences, each of which has its independent office in the College premises.

The Central Lab:

The needs for a Central Lab comes due to the current development of the international Scientific researches which the Saudi Universities are achieving nowadays, noting that KSU is the considered as The Pioneer university in this field. This lab is equipped with the most advanced equipment and appliances as well as international updated technologies under outstanding technical Administration.
